I get a lot of my stuff from emusic (here's a link for 10 free downloads http://www.emusic.com/promo/generic.html). A friend recently introduced me to stereomood.com - Pandora-like site. You can't download from there but you can find new stuff.

I saw the Afghan Whigs (twice in the same evening, early show and late show!)at Slim's in San Francisco back in 1991 (I was living there at the time). I really liked their early albums on Sub Pop (especially "Congregation")but was disappointed in their output once they jumped to a major label. I have "Powder Burns" from Twilight Singers but am realizing I haven't much listened to it.....I'll have to dig it out! Thanks for the reminder! BTW If you like Afghan Whigs....a similar band from the same era is Central Mass's own Dinosaur Jr. Not as Motowny as AW but equally great songwriting.

And P.S. I wouldn't call Vib Gyor colorful, but I do love the few songs I have of theirs...kind of this power pop/rock that would make for a good song on the Twilight soundtrack, haha (but it's not.) Try "Fallen."

You are all over the map, love it! I do have someone/bands you need to check out...and that would be Greg Dulli and any band he's ever been associated with (The Twilight Singers, Afghan Whigs, the Gutter Twins). I discovered him when watching "Rescue Me," and soon after, downloaded (I think) everything he's ever done.

Cool! I had never heard of Vib Gyor...I'll have to check them out (though...I just noticed that their name is Roy G Biv backwards (Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet)..is their music as colorful as their name?). I'm always hoping to find people with diverse musical tastes so I can find some new and exciting music. I have over 35,000 songs in my iTunes library...and it's all over the genre map (except country and opera!). Lots of classic rock, 90's alternative, 70's progressive, 80's punk and new wave, 60's jazz (Miles! Coltrane!) and a fair amount of rap (Jay Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne and old school, Ice-T, Public Enemy, Gil Scott Heron, etc.). I really like the 3:00 pop single, even Brittney Spears or Lady Gaga: if the song is great...its great...doesn't matter who the "personality" is. In that vein, my iPod is choked with Beatles, Beach Boys, early Kinks, Early Who, Fountains of Wayne, Weezer, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, XTC, The Wonder Stuff, etc. I also have lots of the Pitchfork-approved "it" bands (Arcade Fire, Sloan, LCD Soundsystem, Sleigh Bells, TV on the Radio, Muse, Killers, etc.). Let me know if there's anything you're really excited about so I can check them out!!
