The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has given the Milford Water Company approval to run the plant.
A new, state-of-the-art facility that purifies surface water is up and running at the Milford Water Company on Dilla Street, the water company announced Tuesday. “This new and efficient plant is an important investment that will provide the people and businesses of Milford with high quality service for many years to come,” Milford Water Co. President David White said in a press release. “We thank all those who have made this project run smoothly, on schedule, and within budget.” Construction is still continuing on site and is expected to run through August. The new plant will recycle the majority of water used in the treatment of drinking water, General Manager David Condrey told Patch last year. Carbon filters are designed to reduce …

Milford Water Co. received permission Thursday to obtain up to a $20 million loan to cover construction of the new water treatment plant. The town had unsuccessfully argued for a smaller amount.
The Milford Water Co. received approval Thursday to borrow up to $20 million to complete construction of the water treatment plant. The state's Department of Public Utilities approved the loan, despite a request from the town of Milford for a smaller cap on the debt, of $18 million. The approval allows Milford Water Co., a private utility company, to enter into a loan agreement with People's United Bank. According to the approval order, the company is seeking a 10-year loan that would be interest-only for the first two years. The plant is to be completed by April 30, 2013, and operating within the next month. If the Water Co. returns to the state agency with a request for an increase in Water Company rates, paid by customers, which is …

The Milford Water Company will appeal to the state Department of Public Utilities Tuesday for authorization to borrow $20 million for the new treatment plant. In the fall, the utility plans to seek a significant rate increase, possibly 50 percent.
Executives of the Milford Water Company will seek permission from the state Department of Public Utilities Tuesday to borrow up to $20 million to build the new water treatment plant. And to pay for this loan, by the fall, the utilty company plans to seek a significant rate increase — as much as 50 percent, according to a company response shared with Milford selectmen by Town Counsel Gerald Moody. "No clear rate adjustment has been calculated at this time, but based on the projected costs of the new plant and the associated financing, the expected increase could be around 50 percent," the company response stated. The response came following an information request filed by Moody, in which he asked, as part of the company's request to borrow …

David Condrey, general manager of the Milford Water Company, sat down with Milford Patch for an interview about the new water treatment plant.
Construction of a new water treatment plant for Milford should begin by March, and the new facility will offer state-of-the-art techniques for purifying surface water. What it will not do is increase capacity, said David Condrey, the Milford Water Company's general manager. The new plant, recently approved by state and local environmental authorities, will pump up to five million gallons a day, the same capacity as the existing water treatment plant, which dates to the 1970s. This means that should a casino be constructed in Milford, the Milford Water Company's plant would not have the extra capacity to service it, Condrey said, except perhaps for fire protection. "We do not have the extra capacity to feed the casino," Condrey said. What …
