The brown water experienced by Milford Water Company customers this week was due, in part, to rerouting around a section of leaking pipe that still has to be replaced. The Water Company manager said that repair should happen later this summer.
The rerouting of water to avoid a broken line near Dilla Street, underneath the Charles River, was partially responsible for the brown water experienced by Milford Water Company customers this week, the utility manager acknowledged Tuesday. The repair of that water line, which broke this winter, will hopefully take place in August, said David Condrey, general manager for the Milford Water Company. The utility is scheduled to appear Aug. 3 before the Milford Conservation Commission, which would need to authorize the work because of its proximity to the river, Condrey said. A sharp uptick in water consumption has produced widespread water discoloration in Milford. The sudden increase in use has spurred the Milford Water Company, a private utility, to consider strengthening outdoor watering restrictions. The brown water flowing out of taps since Wednesday has angered many customers of the Water Company, who are calling elected officials and the private utility company in frustration.
