5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 10

A recruitment event will be tonight for the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, at the Milford Youth Center. And congratulations to Alex Ohannesian, of Woodland Elementary School, who is the 2012 Teacher of the Year.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations. 1. Registration for the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts is from 6:30 to 8:30 Monday at the Milford Youth Center. There are several Troops and Packs to choose from on each level for boys and girls, which meet different days and times. All families and children are welcome to join. Mosquito Spraying in Milford, Following West Nile Discovery

Forty-nine streets in Milford will be sprayed for mosquitoes on Monday. The designated area is where a mosquito was trapped with the West Nile virus late last month.

Editor's Note: the following news release was distributed Friday by Paul Mazzuchelli, the Milford Board of Health agent. The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control project will be spraying areas of Milford around Godfrey Lane in response to a finding of West Nile virus in a mosquito collection. This is the same type of truck-mounted spraying that occurs every summer. Streets will be sprayed after 7:30 p.m., and should conclude by midnight.
