The Milford Water Company restored water service to its customers on East Main Street late Tuesday, 12 hours after a cast iron water main broke near the I-495 overpass. The customers affected included three business plazas, 127 residential customers and the Milford Fire Department, which lost water to about a dozen hydrants. The water flow was restored about 11:30 p.m. following an all-day repair to replace the damaged section of pipe, said Water Company manager David Condrey. Repair of the cast iron main was delayed for several hours while the Water Company waited on a gas utility to arrive, to identify the location of a high-pressure gas main in the area, said Water Company manager David Condrey. The location of the break was on East Main Street, near the Holliston line. The break was reported to 911 by several callers about 11 a.m. Tuesday. At 3:30 p.m., Condrey estimated the repair would take several more hours, possibly as many as five to six hours.
