Boy Hit by Car While Running for School Bus

An 11-year-old Milford boy was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after he was struck by a car on East Main Street.

An 11-year-old Milford boy was struck by a car Monday morning while running across East Main Street to catch his school bus. The boy was taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center following the collision, reported shortly after 7 a.m. on East Main Street, near the Hannaford Supermarket shopping plaza. His injuries were not specified in the police report, but are not thought to be severe. The driver, who stopped, told police she was traveling west on East Main Street and had just gone through the traffic lights at Medway Road when she saw a school bus in the road. Police Log: School Bus Enforcement, Shoplifting

The following information was supplied by the Milford police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

After receiving a recent complaint from a citizen about cars passing school buses that had stopped, with their red lights activated, Milford police were out in force Wednesday, conducting school bus traffic enforcement. At least eight officers were checking for compliance in the morning and afternoon, according to the overnight police log. Tuesday, Oct. 18 5:13 p.m.: Following a motor vehicle stop on Grove Street, police arrested Sebastiao M. DaSilva, 50, of 7 Grove St., Apt. 2, Milford, on charges of operating a motor vehicle with license revoked, and failure to wear a seat belt. 5:39 p.m.: Police received a report of harassment at Milford High School. I know people seem to be confused on larger roads, with medians, about when to stop for a school bus coming the other way, but I don't think there are any roads with raised medians in Milford. So, people need to stop for these things. It's sad they even have to enforce this....   more ›
