Milford Republicans overwhelmingly voted for Sean Bielat, while Democrats picked Joseph Kennedy III, in primary contests for the Fourth Congressional District race. Nine percent of the town's registered voters cast ballots.
Milford primary voters overwhelmingly chose Joseph Kennedy and Sean Bielat as the Democratic and Republican candidates, respectively, for the Fourth Congressional District seat. The vote totals for town voters mirrored the results across the district. Kennedy, the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, and a former state prosecutor, defeated two other candidates, pulling 90 percent of the Democratic vote, according to an Associated Press report published by the Boston Globe. Bielat, a former Marine and businessman, beat two other candidates handily. He pulled 74 of the Republican votes cast in the district. Milford voters have been trickling into the polls Thursday, to choose among candidates in the primary election.
The primary election includes contests on both the Republican and Democratic ballots, for who will advance in the Fourth Congressional District race. But it hasn't inspired much of a turnout so far in Milford. Traffic at the polls has been slow throughout the day, according to voting officials. Voters have been trickling in to all three locations in Milford. The polls are open until 8 p.m. People who are turning out say they want to support their party, and make their own choices. At the Milford Senior Center, Lena McCarthy voted a Democratic ballot. She had watched the Democratic National Convention the previous night, and joked she was voting "for Bill Clinton." People who will be away on Thursday, the state primary election, can get their absentee ballots until noon Wednesday at Milford Town Hall.
Absentee ballots for the Massachusetts Primary Election on Thursday are available until noon at Milford Town Hall on Wednesday. Any absentee ballots being returned will need to be received at the Office of the Town Clerk by the end of the poll hours, and not brought directly to the polls. If you are confused about your voting status, or your party registration, please call the Town Clerk on Wednesday. She's available at 508-634-2307.
