The skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility is partnering with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
Countryside Health Care of Milford (formerly known as The Geriatric Authority) has followed the town's lead by partnering with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and joining the IMAGE employment compliance program. Milford town officials in August became the first municipality in New England to approve this agreement with ICE that will screen employees. The so-called IMAGE Program sends all I-9 forms submitted by employees through the ICE databases. The partnership is largely symbolic, in that town officials have said they do not expect to find that any town government or school employees are working here illegally. But it was intended to set an example for private businesses. In a press release, ICE announced that Countryside Health…

Milford has agreed to participate in the ICE "IMAGE" program, which will allow the town to use federal immigration databases to verify employees' status.
Milford Selectmen have approved a partnership with a federal agency that will allow the town to screen employee information against a federal immigration database. Considered a symbolic step by town officials, the program will allow the town to make sure all employees are eligible to work in the U.S. It is considered symbolic because the town administrator said he is confident all employees are legally authorized to work. But officials say they hope participation will encourage Milford businesses to join the program, as well. "This would set an example for the rest of the businesses in the community, to go forward with this," said Town Administrator Louis Celozzi. Selectmen unanimously voted to join the Immigration and Customs Enforcement…

Despite objections from Gov. Deval Patrick, a federal program that identifies illegal immigrants who are charged with crimes for deportation will be introduced this month in Massachusetts. The Secure Communities program, run by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is supported by many local law enforcement leaders, including Milford Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin, as well as local and state political leaders. The program will begin May 15 in Massachusetts. New Hampshire started it Tuesday. It had previously been expected to be implemented in Massachusetts in 2013. Under the program, local police will continue to send fingerprints of people arrested for offenses to the FBI. But, under Secure Communities, the fingerprints are then sent …

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says local authorities should have kept track of a witness in the Matthew Denice case. The man fled after cutting an ICE-applied monitoring bracelet. The position has astonished Milford police.
Who was responsible for keeping track of the witness with the ICE-applied tracking bracelet? According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcment: local authorities. ICE issued a statement Tuesday night indicating "local jurisdictions" should have kept track of a key witness in the Matthew Denice case, who is thought to have fled to Ecuador after cutting an ICE-applied tracking device. The statement from ICE said it placed the ankle bracelet on Luis Acosta, 20, because he was identified for deportation proceedings, not because he was a wtiness in the death of the 23-year-old Denice. ICE is the federal agency that oversees immigration enforcement. In the statement, ICE also pointed out that "local jurisdictions" are responsible for keeping …
