Milford Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts all participated in a town-wide effort to collect canned goods for the Milford Daily Bread Food Pantry.
Milford scouts of all ages helped out last Sunday as Scouting for Food got underway. Scouts helped sort the collections, which were placed by donors in brown bags, and then picked up by the scouts. The donations will go to the Daily Bread Food Pantry.

A Junior Girl Scout troop from Milford recently earned the "Horse Lovers" badge by spending some time with the horses at Ridge Valley Stables in Grafton.

Last week, Milford Junior Girl Scout Troop 30591 earned their Horse Lovers Badge at Ridge Valley Stables in Grafton. The two-hour program included an unmounted session in the stables, where the girls got hands-on experience in grooming horses, watched the saddling and bridling of a horse, and learning basic horse riding safety and manners around horses. The girls were THRILLED to then take horses out on a trail ride through the woods, across streams and out into a picturesque open field before returning to the stables for a snack and photo opportunities with their new equine friends.

Milford Brownies, Daisies and Girl Scouts paraded down the sidewalk of Main Street Sunday to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Girl Scouts of America.
The Girl Scouts of America turned 100 this year, and to celebrate, the Milford troops paraded down Main Street, and had a series of fun activities at St. Mary's of the Assumption parish hall on Sunday.

Milford Girl Scouts visited the residents of Whitcomb House, the Milford Rehabilitation Center and the Salvation Army, spreading Christmas cheer.
Milford Girl Scouts were out in force this month, singing carols, delivering presents and spreading good cheer to residents of Whitcomb House assisted living center, the Milford Care and Rehabilitation Center, and providing gifts for 16 people through the Salvation Army.

A group of Cadette Girl Scouts from Milford were treated to an all-access, behind the scenes tour this month of the apparel design studios at the Rhode Island School of Design. Sophomore college students, former girl scouts themselves, explained what is required of students who attend this program. The girls toured the computer design lab in Providence, the various project rooms and saw a live demonstration of some of the design equipment. The girls were able to see many design projects in process while being prepared for upcoming critiques by important design industry professionals. More than 150 Milford girls spent some quality outdoor time recently at a two-night encampment in Harvard.
After months of planning, more than 150 girls from Milford took part in a town-wide encampment at Green Eyrie Girl Scout Camp in Harvard. The girls spent last Friday and Saturday nights in tents and lodges around the facility. They participated in a flurry of activities including: boating, field games, ropes courses, archery, crafts, and team building exercises. Hard-working encampment volunteers cooked and served three waves of hungry campers with a family-style lunch of veggies, salad, and spaghetti and meatballs. The girls traded handmade swaps, individual to each troop. After a jam-packed day there was still energy for the dance party, complete with a DJ, and a 100th anniversary celebration with a Girl Scout Birthday cake. On Saturday…

Several local organizations have held food drives to benefit the victims of the devastating tornado in Western Massachusetts. Another is this weekend.
The devastating tornado June 1 in Western Massachusetts, one of the strongest to hit the state, left damage in several communities, including Springfield, Brimfield and Monson. Last week, the Knox Trail Boy Scouts held a food drive. This week, a Girl Scout troop is hosting one. An organizer posted the following notice on the Milford Patch Facebook page: Tornado Drive A local Girl Scout/Brownie troop and the Youth Group at the First Congregational Church, 4 Congress St., Milford, is hosting a clothing/canned food drive for tornado victims in Western Mass. Drop off times are Saturday, June 11 from 3 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, June 12 from 1 to 3 p.m., at 4 Congress St.
