With Thanksgiving just around the corner, volunteers handed out turkeys to Milford residents in need.
Volunteers at the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Milford handed out turkeys to dozens of families on Tuesday who need a little help putting food on the table this Thanksgiving. The pantry currently provides food on a monthly basis to more than 300 Milford families using a team of 150 volunteers the pantry's director, John DeAngelo, said. Jaden Agnew, 8, decided to skip the birthday gifts this year, and asked his friends to donate food for the Milford Daily Bread Food Pantry instead.
Like most boys, 8-year-old Jaden Agnew has a full life with football, family, school and friends. He invited 20 of his pals from the Mighty Mites of Milford to his birthday party last week. The party was the unusual: a cake, candles, a smiling birthday boy. But here's the twist: instead of gifts for Jaden, the kids all brought canned vegetables, beans, boxes of cereal and other staples for donation to the Daily Bread Food Pantry. The Agnew family brought the donated food Monday to the weekly drop-off of items for the food pantry. More than 300 families receive assistance through the service each week, a number that has increased with the recession.
