A project manager will prepare a bid package for Milford softball field improvements and a new restroom building at the athletic fields complex.
Improvements to the Milford High School softball field and construction of a new restroom facility and concession area for the athletics complex are moving forward. The project manager for the community fields complex will prepare a bid package for contractors, to include the new restroom building, and significant improvements to the existing softball complex, including new fencing, irrigation and infield and outfield restoration. Construction of the nearly $3 million football field, tennis courts and track is nearly completed, and resulted in enough savings to add the improvements to the adjoining softball complex, said Brian Murray, a Milford Selectman and chairman of the Community Fields Committee. He estimated the savings on the …

The Milford School Committee voted 6-1 Wednesday to set an hourly rate of $25 for Milford's youth sports groups to use the new athletics field. The rate will last for two years.
Milford youth sports associations will pay $25 an hour to use the new athletics field at Milford High School, the School Committee agreed Wednesday, shelving a proposal to charge three times as much. The rate, for Milford organizations only, will continue for two years, giving school and youth association representatives more time to review information and set a rate that will provide some funds for maintenance. The School Committee adopted the fee in a 6-1 vote. Patrick Holland voted against, saying he thought a better solution was a year of no-fees for the field. School Committee members said they sympathized with the youth sports associations that were taken aback by the proposed $75 an hour fee, and wanted to make sure children had …

The Milford School Committee is considering a new fee that youth sports groups would pay to use the new football field at Milford High School, an amount that a lacrosse organization says is "a money grab."
A proposal to charge community athletics groups as much as $75 an hour to use the new football field at Milford High School has angered parents, who say it will prevent their children from using the new field. The School Committee is considering an update of a facilities use policy that would charge groups, including youth lacrosse and soccer, three times as much as they had anticipated spending on field costs. The committee has not yet approved the fee schedule, but the idea is to cover the maintenance and replacement costs of the synthetic field, said member Mike Walsh. Initially discussed on March 15, the policy will come back for further discussion on April 5. "We haven't even had a formal reading of the policy yet," Walsh said. Walsh …

The town Community Fields Committee on Thursday approved a $2.5 million contract for a new athletics complex near Milford High School.
Within a few weeks, contractors will begin a $2.5 million revamping of the athletics fields near Milford High School, completing an overhaul that began a few months ago with tree removal. The $2,457,600 contract with Green Acres Landscaping Construction Co., of Lakeville, was approved Thursday in a meeting of the Community Fields Committee, said Mike Bresciani, Milford Parks director. Milford Town Meeting voters in October approved $3 million for the work. Of the six bids received, Green Acres submitted the lowest bid. The bids ranged from $2.45 million to $2.71 million for the work, and the second lowest bidder was just $25,000 more than Green Acres, Bresciani said. "They were very, very close," he said. The current athletic facilities, …

Milford voters last year approved a revamping of the athletic facilities at Milford High School. The recent felling of trees near the tennis courts signaled the beginning of the project.
Right now, the scene around the Milford High School tennis courts looks like something out of the Lorax. Tree stumps, jagged and uneven, stick out on a muddy, barren landscape. But the unappealing sight is temporary. It marks the start of a $3 million package of improvements for Milford athletics. To save money, town officials decided to go ahead and clear trees from the site, before awarding a contract for the full project, said Selectman Brian Murray, who is chairman of the Community Fields Committee. He estimated the move to separate tree removal from the general contract saved $20,000. Town voters approved $3 million at Annual Town Meeting last October for the Community Fields project. Bids are being accepted now for the work, Murray …

It really is of no consequence as the meeting, whether at 6 or 7, did not have a public comment section as part of its agenda. Good compromise.   more ›
