Cheerleaders Earn National Championship

The Milford High School Cheerleaders won a national championship title this month in Florida.

The Milford High School Varsity Cheerleaders recently competed at the Cheerleaders of America (COA) Ultimate National Cheerleading Championship held March 29-30 in Orlando, Florida.  The team, coached by Heather Johnson, performed so well both days that they captured the National Championship in the Advanced Large Varsity division. The girls, who compete in the Advanced Large Varsity Division, completed a short routine packed with stunts, gymnastics, pyramids, jumps, dance and motions.  Judges evaluate cheer routines for difficulty of skills, technique of skills, execution of skills, timing, and team percentage of skills, while at the same time issuing penalties for each and every error made on the mat. Milford High Cheerleaders Head to Regionals

The Milford High School cheerleaders recently won the Hockomock League competition and title.

Milford Cheerleaders plan for Nationals

The Milford High School cheerleaders will be attending Nationals competition for the first time in 27 years. They will hold several fundraiser events, beginning this weekend, to defray costs.

The Milford High School cheerleaders will head to Atlanta next month, to participate in Nationals competition for the first time in 27 years. The National Cheerleading and Dance Competition is Feb. 17 to 19. To help defray travel expenses, the cheerleaders will host a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament event Saturday at Hoboken Citizens Club, according to Heather Johnson, varsity cheer coach. You don't have to actually play poker to help the girls get to Atlanta. The event will feature raffles of great items, a silent auction for a pair of Feb. 28 Bruins tickets (vs. Ottawa, behind the net Bruins will shoot at twice during game) and a signed baseball from Boston Red Sox Pitcher Jon Lester. Carl, do you know a cheerleader or coach? I do, and in my experiance, these girls are very well trained and protected while learning. This may be a risky sport, but no more risky then football or hockey. Or even baseball. While I agree safety regulations should be manditory for all sports, compairing the hard work and dedication these girls put into learning the moves and lifts to moms who put …   more ›

Lady Hawks Soar at Local Competition

The Milford U13 and U15 teams will advance to regional competition at DCU Center in Worcester.

Milford Youth Cheerleaders had a great day at their local competition, held on Oct. 22. Four teams at various age levels participated, including three that competed, and one that went as an exhibition team. The U8 Team — which cheered for three Mighty Mite teams during football season — was coached by Alanna Juliano, assisted by Wendy Baglione and student helper, Devin MacLean. They were extremely happy to walk away with individual medals and a team participation trophy. The U10 team — which cheered for fourth and fifth grade Milford Youth Football teams — was coached by Nicole Cheschi, assisted by Darcy Fallon, Erika Girard, and Chrissy Waldo and student coaches Kiley Fallon, Sabrina Carneiro, Victoria Chiarelli and Amber Waldrup.
