A project manager will prepare a bid package for Milford softball field improvements and a new restroom building at the athletic fields complex.
Improvements to the Milford High School softball field and construction of a new restroom facility and concession area for the athletics complex are moving forward. The project manager for the community fields complex will prepare a bid package for contractors, to include the new restroom building, and significant improvements to the existing softball complex, including new fencing, irrigation and infield and outfield restoration. Construction of the nearly $3 million football field, tennis courts and track is nearly completed, and resulted in enough savings to add the improvements to the adjoining softball complex, said Brian Murray, a Milford Selectman and chairman of the Community Fields Committee. A man who is accused of being the passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee that reportedly vandalized the Milford High School athletic fields was arraigned Thursday in Milford District Court. He is charged as a "joint venturer" in the case.
A Milford man who is accused of participating in the vandalism of the athletic fields and property at Milford High School was arraigned Thursday on charges including a felony offense, malicious destruction of property. Jeffery Vanzile, 29, of 122 Highland St., Milford, is charged with disturbing the peace, malicious destruction of property worth more than $250, and disorderly conduct. A co-defendant, Brent Nichols, 28, of 39 Main St., Apt. L, Blackstone, is accused of driving the Jeep Grand Cherokee that police say was stopped as it attempted to flee the high school property. Two men were arrested by Milford Police early Sunday, just hours before graduation, after they reportedly drove a Jeep over several athletic fields, including the new football field.
Two men face felony vandalism charges after they were arrested after riding in a Jeep Grand Cherokee over the Milford athletic fields, according to police arrest reports. The vandalism included extensive damage to the grassy areas surrounding parking lots at Milford High School, and to an access gate and section of fence protecting the new turf football field. The artificial turf field, valued at $1 million, will be evaluated by contractors for damage but appeared to have minor cosmetic damage, according to the police documents. The arrests and vandalism came just hours before the Milford High School graduation, but did not disrupt the ceremonies.
