Anyone who's driven by the old firehouse on Purchase Street couldn't help but notice it needed some love.
The cedar shingles have lost most of their color, and the white paint has flaked off the door and sign. The building, now used for equipment storage, looked a little too rustic.
Enter Tyler Mikulski, an Eagle Scout candidate looking for a project.
Tyler, 15, got permission from the to give the 1920s-era building a fresh coat of stain for the cedar shingles, and paint for the doors.
Tyler, a scout with Troop 2, approached in Milford, which agreed to donate the stain, a deep red called Sequoia.
In addition to staining the shingles, Tyler and his father, Chris, will repaint the white entrance doors and remove the broken gutters.
The stain work was about halfway done on Sunday, when Tyler and his father were working on the south side. Earlier, fellow Troop 2 scouts Peter Elia and Bryce Ryan gave a hand.
The new look is expected to be finished by the end of September.
