Milford Divided

Thanks to the casino gambling mania that has taken hold of Milford, our once stable hometown has become a deeply divided and contentious battleground at the hands of an uninvited and disruptive, outside influence. While we expected and enjoyed steady and enduring growth as a normal New England community, we quietly became the target of a pervasive threat to our way of life with the arrival in town of the Foxwoods gambling empire.

Historically our local residents would once-in-awhile venture to a casino for the day, lose some money, hopefully enjoy themselves then return to the place we call home. For whatever reasons the casino determined their financial fortunes would be better served by bringing the gambling venue to the gambler’s doorstep. Just why Milford was selected can be attributed to a few simple facts; the availability of some utilities, some roads, a patch of land (rock), and a susceptible group of area residents. Foxwoods identified the likelihood of successfully establishing a splinter group of pro-gambling residents through promises of immense cash contributions to Milford, knowing none of the promises will guarantee a future of financial stability for Milford or its taxpayers. Divide and conquer is the term used to describe this course of action. Milford’s future will be jeopardized however Foxwoods remains joyful over “getting everything they wanted”.

This manipulation of our town by Foxwoods is unacceptable and must be stopped.  A “NO” vote on November 19 is our best and only defense.
