Milford CAT Dealership Gives HS Students Real-Work Experience

Annual training program gives students opportunity to explore a variety of careers.

Earthmoving, electrical power generation, highway trucks, disassembled engines, replacing wire harnesses: not how you’d expect high school students to spend their summer vacations.

But eight students from Norfolk Aggie, an Agricultural High School based in Walpole, have been learning practical skills from the Milford CAT Dealership this summer.

“The Norfolk Aggie Field Experience Program offers qualified juniors a chance to develop skills and gain work experience while they are exposed to a variety of career paths,” said Ron Barton, Corporate Technician Recruitment and Development Manager at Milton CAT, in a statement.

The six-week program includes classroom learning combined with shop floor experience, aimed at helping the juniors to take the best advantage of their summer field experience, according to Barton.

The students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. to take part in the six-week scheme and students who successfully complete the program may be eligible to receive college credits from Massasoit Community College.

“It would take three pages to list all the things that I have learned but I hope to continue learning and soak up as much as I can!” said one of the participants in the annual program Zachary O’Donnell in the statement.
