Peter Bae of Milford, Selected as MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month

Peter Bae is ranked first in the senior class and is a varsity athlete for two sports.

Editor's Note: Peter Bae, a senior at Milford High School, recently was named the MIAA Male Student-Athlete of the Month for November. This is an unusual distinction, and highly competitive. Bae was nominated by soccer coach Jim Asam. The following is a press release from the  Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. In addition, several other students at Milford High School were among the year's finalists.

Peter Bae, a senior at Milford High School, has been selected as the recipient of the MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award for November 2013.

A four-year member of the Milford High School soccer team, Peter Bae is known for the sportsmanship and respect that he consistently demonstrates on and off the field. He is also a four-year member of the varsity tennis team.

Academically, Peter is ranked first in the senior class at Milford High School and has earned a 4.275 grade point average. His course load includes several demanding Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Peter is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned a 5 on each of his AP exams. He is a member of the Student Council, served as Class President as a sophomore and acted as a class representative as a junior.

One of Peter's favorite extracurricular activities is playing the cello. He began playing in fourth grade, auditioned and played in the Massachusetts Central District Junior Music Festival by middle school and the Central District Senior Music Festival in high school. Peter also played in the pit for the school spring musical.

Peter stays active in the Milford community by volunteering at the town library every Saturday. He assists with shelf-reading, organizing and book-shifting. He also participates in service activities for the school's music department throughout the year. This past summer, he attended a mission trip to the Dominican Republic where he helped build three chapels and taught a Vacation Bible School.

Milford High School Guidance Counselor Jennifer Hartford says, "Peter Bae is a gifted individual who is thoughtful, studious and good natured. He has give so much to our school academically, athletically and artistically, and I know he will continue to make similar contributions at whichever institution he attends."

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the Month Award is presented on a monthly basis to one male and one female student-athlete who display excellence in the areas of academics, athletics and community service. Students in grades 9-12 who attend MIAA member schools are eligible to receive the award. Nominations for the award may be submitted by principals, athletic directors, teachers, coaches, guidance counselors or other school administrators.
