Lady Hawks Soar at Regional Cheer Competition

Two teams from Milford Youth Football and Cheer will advance to national competition in December.

Editor's Note: the following was released by Melissa Juliano, secretary for Milford Youth Cheer.

On Saturday Nov. 24, 2012, the U10 and U15 Milford Lady Hawks represented Milford at the Regional Competition held at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Rhode Island.

The U10 team is coached by Nicole Cheschi, assisted by Erika Girad, Chrissy Waldo, Kathy Williamson, and Wendy Baglione. Student coaches are Amber Waldrup, Victoria Chiarelli and Sabrina Carneiro. The girls on this team are in between the ages of 8 and 10 years old and in the third through fifth grades.  They took the floor early in the day and showed everyone what Milford cheerleading is made of!  Their routine consisted of some amazing stunts for girls their ages. They had handstand stunts, one leg stunts, “L” sit stunts and some amazing tumbling. Their pyramid was incredible and consisted of five stunt groups, two full extensions where the flyer is lifted above their bases' heads, and two flip out dismounts.

This team really flew high on those mats and cheered their hearts out, beating out 15 other teams in their age group and came in FIRST PLACE! What a phenomenal win for these girls!! They will now be advancing to National Competition in Florida on Dec. 8. We couldn’t be prouder of this team of young cheerleaders.

The U15 team is coached by Charlene Capone, assisted by Ann Currie, Susanne Beatty, and Patty Travis-Sawyer, with student coach Brittany Ramutta. This team is made up of 14- and 15-year-olds in grades 8, 9 and 10. They competed much later in the day, and again, proved that Milford has what it takes when it comes to cheerleading. Their routine was fantastic! They pulled off a near perfect routine which consisted of three ‘one man’ stunts, which made up their pyramid, flip out dismounts, a half pendulum, full extensions with twist downs, beyond amazing tumbling and a set of triple jumps!

The U15 team cheered and danced in tight cheerleader form and soared above the rest of their competition and beat out six other teams and also came in FIRST PLACE! They will also be advancing to National Competition in Florida on Dec. 8.  We are thrilled for this team of girls, they worked hard all season.

Both teams will be fundraising for help in getting to National Competition. If you see the girls out and around Milford, please support them with a small donation or go to our website and donate there: www.milfordayfc.com. These girls will also be marching in the Welcome Santa parade, so make sure to wish them luck!

We really couldn’t be prouder of both of these teams and wish them luck on Dec. 8 at National Competition as they show the nation what Milford cheerleading is all about.
