School Committee to Discuss 'School Choice' Potential in Milford

The committee will also review updates on the FY14 school budget on Thursday.

The Milford School Committee on Thursday will discuss whether the district will accept school choice pupils in the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. 

The district must vote prior to June 1 about school choice, and Superintendent Robert Tremblay has recommended that the Milford School Committee vote in favor of the offering. More will be discussed at Thursday night's meeting.

Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Human Resources Kathleen Perry will update the committee on the Fiscal Year 2014 budget, as wells updates on personnel and professional development. Milford High School Principal Carolyn Banach will join her to present a budget transfer request.

Also at the meeting, Kevin McIntyre, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment will provide an update on implementing a Teaching Strategies Gold, which is an assessment required by the state for districts who have received full-day kindergarten grant money. 

McIntyre will also discuss planning and preparation for "Let the School Days Begin," a program connecting the Best Buddies and Special Olympics programs in the district.
