There are plenty of student-athletes in the halls of Milford High School deserving of recognition.

And several hawks in particular are close to receiving that recognition, thanks to the annual Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship Program. But they need the community's help.

The following seven students from Milford are finalists for the national award, which will give the 18 winning entries $5,000 each:

  • Giovanna Arcudi
  • Charles Dias
  • Lauren Keisling
  • Michael Mason
  • Dayane Mota
  • Kelly Nicolas
  • Tatyianna Zicherman

Residents are encouraged to vote for the winner now through April 18 at 3 p.m. Each entry includes an essay on why the participant should be selected for the scholarship.

Kelly Nicolas, for example, who has participated in varsity basketball and soccer at Milford High School, explains that despite her drive for competition and determination have been a learning process, and how even losing several games has helped discipline her as much as winning.

If there were seven students applying, why not list all of them instead of just one. Very unfair reporting.

Hi Milford Dad -- Thanks for the comment. I've gone back in and added the names of all those listed on Hood's scholarship site, which you can also find here: https://www.hood.com/promo/scholarship
