Milford Public Schools will be closed on Monday due to Hurricane Sandy.

Superintendent Robert Tremblay said he made the decision Sunday afternoon, after consulting with Milford Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin.

The concern, in particular, is getting kids home during the storm, he said, and road conditions at that time.

A decision about whether to open on Tuesday will be made Monday afternoon.

Tremblay said the decision was made earlier than typical, the day before, because people need to be able to make childcare arrangements if they are working.

Further down the coast, Washington DC and New York city schools also will be closed Monday.
