Kindergarteners had an hour-long social Thursday, a chance to learn who would be their teacher, and who would be some of their classmates. The event at the play areas of Memorial and Brookside elementary schools was designed to give the kids an introduction to school before the big day.
Several dozen children attended the social at The day included treats from the ice cream truck and play time with hula-hoops and the play area equipment.
Parents said their kids were getting excited about school, and seemed ready for it.
Joseph Butler, 5, who will enter school this year at Memorial, will follow an older brother. His mother, Pina Butler, said he's the baby, so it's "bittersweet" for her.
But he's ready to go.
"Oh, he's very excited," she said. "It's time."
