What Space is the Handicapped Space?

Anyone who's watched "Parking Wars" on cable TV has seen the confusion caused by parking signs with arrows. In Milford, the handicapped signs have green arrows, pointing the way to the spot.

When you pull into a parking space, and see the handicapped parking space sign that seems (to you, anyway) to be marking the space you didn't select, take a second look.

The little arrow, easily overlooked, points to the space that is designated for the handicapped person. The signs are posted not in the middle of the handicapped space, but usually behind it, with the arrow pointing the way.

[As an example, the photos are on Main Street, near This & That Thrift Shop.]
