Snow Removal Budget Spent

The snow-filled month of February has exhausted the snow and ice removal budget for Milford, now $11,000 in the red. The deficit won't affect snow removal efforts this weekend.

A series of weekend snowstorms, including a blizzard that dropped 27 inches on Milford, has exhausted the town's snow removal budget, if not its workers.

The town's $500,000 snow and ice removal budget is gone, almost half of it taken up by the two-day blizzard earlier this month.

The account is now $11,000 in the red, following efforts last weekend to remove the 3.5 additional inches that fell, said Highway Surveyor Scott Crisafulli, in an emailed message.

Crisafulli said he contacted the town's Finance Committee about the account status, but the finances will not impact the town's efforts to remove snow that falls this weekend.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Taunton calls for more than 6 inches of heavy, wet snow late Saturday into Sunday morning.

"We keep going," Crisafulli said, in an email message.
