Milford Election Guide 2012

Milford voters will be asked to consider several issues and choose among differing candidates in November. Here is a quick snapshot of the races and issues:

1. Redistricting put Milford, for the first time, into the 4th Congressional District. This means local voters will help decide the seat that will be vacated by the retiring U.S. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Newton). The open race, so far, includes a familiar surname in . But numerous challengers have opened campaigns, as well. So far, only Kennedy and have made campaign stops in Milford.

2. Elizabeth Warren, a former Havard University law professor, is challenging U.S. Sen. Scott Brown in a race for a full term in the U.S. Senate. The race is among the most closely watched on a national scale, and it is, so far, a statistical dead-heat, according to early polls.

3. Scott Brown, elected in 2010 to fill the seat held for decades by the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, has campaigned to win re-election in U.S. Senate. Brown, who often makes appearances in the area, recently picked up an endorsement from Milford resident and former state Rep. Marie Parente.

4. Economic development is one of the top issues facing Milford, and voters are keeping an eye on any proposal for a casino here. So far, selectmen have not been asked to view any project,

5. Illegal immigration and Secure Communities are also closely followed by voters in Milford,

6. Ballot: There could be as many as four initiatives on the fall ballot.
