Main Street Construction: Almost Done

The improvements for most of Main Street are completed. Additional work will take place in the spring at one more intersection.

After months of delays, detours and dodging exposed sewer covers, travelers in Milford have probably noticed that Main Street is almost done.

Almost, but not quite.

The $3.3 million state project is 98 percent complete, according to the state Department of Transportation website.

The finishing touches are being completed this week in the downtown stretch. Only one intersection still has to be completed — Cedar Street at East Main Street — and that one will wait until spring, said Mike Santora, Milford's town engineer.

The project has introduced new intersection lights, new paving, enlarged sidewalk crossings at intersections, and audible/digital crosswalk guides. The same improvements will be made at the Cedar Street intersection.

It would be nice if they could fix the timing of the lights by the post office. Water Street now gets the light before Congress/S. Main Street and on a nightly basis when I go through that intersection the cars coming from Water Street are still crossing past Congress/S. Main Street when the light turns green for Congress/S. Main Street. They need to put a slightly longer delay between the two green lights.

I agree, almost hit a SUV this morning when the light at South Main St turned green, cars were still coming through the intersection, at least 2 went by after the light turned green.
