Fire on Domenick Street Accidental, Cause Undetermined

The state Fire Marshal's office has concluded an investigation into the fire that leveled a Domenick Street home on Saturday. It was determined to be accidental.

The state Fire Marshal's office has determined a fire that destroyed a two-story house on Domenick Street was accidental in nature, but the cause could not be pinpointed.

The investigation was conducted by the state Fire Marshal's office, in conjunction with the Milford police and fire departments.

"There is no reason to think there is anything suspicious about the fire," said spokeswoman Jennifer Mieth, of the state Fire Marshal's office. Due to the collapse of the building, however, the investigators could not determine what caused the fire.

Investigators were able to determine the fire began in the area of the kitchen of the single-family home, based on interviews with witnesses and a scene exam, she said.

The property is owned by Daniel and Lucia Ribeiro, who were away from the house at the time the fire was discovered. The family lost the contents of the house, as well as two pets to the blaze, relatives said: a kitten and a parrot.
