1,200 Voters Cast Ballots in Early Voting

The turnout for the Milford town election Monday is on pace to be stronger than last year's municipal election. By 1 p.m., 1,209 voters had cast ballots.

About 7 percent of Milford's registered voters had cast ballots by 1 p.m., according to data supplied to Milford Town Clerk Amy Hennessy Neves.

That's 1,209 residents who had cast ballots in the first five hours of voting. The town has 16,860 registered voters this year.

Polls opened at the town's eight precincts at 8 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m.

Last year, only 2,045 voters cast ballots in the town election.

Voters this year are choosing among several contested races, including a four-way competition for three seats on the School Committee and a contested selectman's seat.

were standing beside their campaign signs outside the town's three voting locations. The largest group was at the Portuguese Club, which had also had the largest turnout as of 1 p.m., Neves said.

They moved my voting place! I always used to go to the Senior Center, but my wife went this monring and they moved us to the Itam Vets! we're district 3 I think, but they changed a few- I know i read about it before, but assumed it wasn't me- shame on me for not paying attention, just throwing it out there, not sure where you could check, but it may save somebody a trip across town- they said (I believe) a few precincts got moved from the Portugese Club as well.

Chip, I'm sure you weren't the only one who went to the wrong place. This is from the tail-end of a story I posted earlier today: Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. This will be the first election in Milford following the 2010 Census, which created an eighth precinct in the town, and the necessity for new precinct lines. Precincts 1 and 4 are at the Milford Senior Center. Precincts 2 and 3 are at the Italian American Veterans club. Precincts 5, 6, 7 and 8 are at the Portuguese Club. If you are unsure where you are supposed to vote, you can visit the town website, which has a street directory assigned to each precinct, or call the Town Clerk's office at 508-634-2307.

The new polling locations do not make sense. I'm in Precinct 3 and have to drive past the Senior Center to go to the Italian American Veterans Club.
