Milford Police, Dive Teams Investigating Drowning at Fletcher Quarry

Milford police and fire crews, with the assistance of regional Fore technical units and dive teams from fire and the Massachusetts State Police are investigating a drowning that took place at the Fletcher Quarry in Milford on Sunday afternoon. 

Rescue crews responded to the quarry Sunday afternoon to search for a teenager reported missing in the waters. Five teens had been jumping into the quarry around 12:30 p.m. Sunday when one of them, an 18-year-old Rhode Island man, did not come back up, according to the ABC News. Three of the teens were males and two were females, according to the Boston Globe.

Milford Police announced that the search was underway Sunday afternoon, and officials and crews plan to resume search operations early Monday morning, Milford Police said in a statement. 

"The Milford Police Department continues to work with the Milford Fire Department, the Fire technical teams, the Fire and State Police Dive Units, the State Police Detective Unit from District Attorney Joseph Early's office in an effort to find the young man who is believed to have drowned at the quarry off Walden Way," Milford Police Chief O'Loughlin via email to Milford Patch Sunday night. "The family is aware of our efforts and our thoughts and prayers are with them, their son and their extended family and friends."
