Police Log: Two Crashes Result in Injuries, Men Trying to Steal a Stop Sign

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. All arrests are reported. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Wednesday, July 3

6:23 p.m.: A caller on Iadarola Avenue reported someone had fallen and broken his leg. An officer requested a helicopter, but the helicopter was not available. The man was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester by ambulance.

6:24 p.m.: A woman walked in to police headquarters to report that while she was in jail, someone stole her prescription medications and sold them. Police filed a report.

8:24 p.m.: A woman asked police to come to her home and remove her mother from the property.

10:03 p.m.: A caller on Chapin Street reported fireworks being set off. Police arrived but the people were gone.

10:11 p.m.: A caller on Oliver Street said excessive fireworks were being set off. Police responded.

10:28 p.m.: A caller on Divittorio Drive said a man with long dreadlocks was walking toward Fountain Street, and stumbling in the middle of the road. 

11:57 p.m.: Several youths were setting off fireworks on Claflin Street, near Blaire House. Police responded but the noisemakers were gone.

Thursday, July 4

12:20 a.m.: A member of the Milford Lions club dropped off some items found after the fireworks ended at Plains Park: a Verizon phone and a floral print wallet with cash inside.

12:39 a.m.: An intoxicated man was reported to have stopped on Purchase Street, and was staring at a 12-year-old girl while her mother was in the house. Police checked the area but could not find him.

3:57 a.m.: A caller on Winterberry Lane said four men in their 20s were trying to rip out a stop sign. They were last seen taking off into back yards on Bowdoin. An officer said the stop sign was not damaged, but was loosened.

4:06 a.m.: A Jeep was repossessed on Whitewood Road.

8:31 a.m.: A man appeared to be passed out under a tree on Main Street, at Middle School East. Police checked and he was OK.

12:59 p.m.: A crash was reported on East Main at Cedar streets. A woman was complaining of neck injury. The crash involved a Ford 500 and a Honda Civic.

3:55 p.m.: A caller reported an erratic driver on Medway Road. Police could not locate the vehicle.

6:17 p.m.: A 93-year-old woman was reportedly scammed out of $8,000 by a phone fraud, when the person claimed that her grandson was in custody by Milford Police.

6:57 p.m.: A caller reported his sister and her boyfriend were arguing. Police responded.

7:19 p.m.: A caller reported a white Ford Expedition backed into her car on Thayer Street and then fled the scene. No injury was reported.

8:38 p.m.: A caller reported a domestic on Medway Road near Applebee's. A man smacked a woman's purse out of her hand. Cars were stopping to check on the woman.

9:15 to 9:18 p.m.: Callers reported neighbors were setting off fireworks on East Street Extension, and on Luby Avenue.

9:26 p.m.: A caller said she was walking on the bike path and could hear yelling coming from the quarries. An officer determined she was not being truthful, instead, a fight had happened at the quarries. The fight involved local people and some youths from Rhode Island. Police were looking around the area for cars with RI plates.

9:32 to 10:34 p.m.: People reported fireworks were being set off on Congress Street, Westbrook Street, Yale Drive, Tomaso Road, and Fruit Street.

Friday, July 5

12:30 a.m.: A caller said her 29-year-old friend got into an argument with her boyfriend. The boyfriend left the area and the girlfriend was now combative and intoxicated. An officer responded and determined no assault had taken place. The woman was being brought home by a friend.

3:42 a.m.: A man walked in to police headquarters and asked to be taken to the hospital. He was acting hostile and disoriented. An officer responded. He was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.

8:16 a.m.: A vehicle hit a post in a driveway on West Fountain Street, a caller reported. An officer reported this was a rollover crash with several people injured. Three people were injured. Officers requested one more ambulance. The people were taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.

10:29 a.m.: Several callers reported a two-car crash on Fortune Boulevard. One vehicle was into the guardrail. Two ambulances were requested for a total of three people. They were taken to Milford Regional Medical Center.

10:34 a.m.: Following a motor vehicle stop on East Main Street, police arrested Mauricio Caetano, 44, of 19 Spring St., Milford, on charges of a crosswalk violation and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. The 2003 Chevy van was towed.

1:19 p.m.: A caller reported hearing two explosions, possibly fireworks, on Howard Street. Police responded.

1:48 p.m.: A woman on Temple Street said someone had smashed her car window. The woman said she was not sure if it shattered from the heat or not.

3:06 p.m.: A motorcyclist was reported to be down on the ground on Ivy Lane. No injury was reported but the bike had to be towed.

5:09 p.m.: A caller on Water Street told police his neighbor was revving a motorcycle engine at him.
