Police Log: Truck Hits Overhead Wires, Tree Catches Fire

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Wednesday, June 18

At 12:29 a.m., a caller reported to Milford Police that there was a suspicious vehicle blocking a driveway on East Walnut Street. Officers responded and found a vehicle in front of the driveway and left a message for the owner. 

At 6:14 a.m., police received a report of a driver who reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and drove off the roadway near Fortune Boulevard.

At 6:39 a.m., police received a report that a man with white hair and a walking stick was walking in and out of traffic in the area of Dilla and Cedar streets. 

At 12:29 p.m., police received a report that a vehicle was being driven erratically in the area of CVS and into Hopedale.

At 2:56 p.m., a caller reported a two-car accident in the area of West Street. No injuries were reported. 

At 3 p.m., Hannaford loss prevention reported that a male shoplifter was in custody. 

At 3:47 p.m., a caller reported that while at a bus stop on South Main Street a tractor-trailer unit hit an overhead wire that slammed against a tree, causing it to catch fire and burn for about 15 seconds. The caller said no wires were down and the tree was no longer burning, but the Milford Fire Department and police responded to check the area. National Grid was notified and police reported no hazard noticeable, though the tree had markings on it. 

At 5:08 p.m., police received a report of a motor vehicle accident near Hickey's Liquors on East Main Street, with a reported fuel spill. Massachusetts State Police were on scene, as well.
