Police Log: Report of Gunshots Near Downtown, Truck Fire

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. When arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Oct. 14

1:38 p.m.: Police responded to Kohl's, for a report of shoplifting. Police were seeking a summons to charge Conor O'Malley, 22, of 9 Washington St., Franklin, with shoplifting more than $100 by concealing merchandise.

5:34 p.m.: An officer pulled over a vehicle at Fruit and Depot streets that had a mattress on top, unsecured or tied.

7:31 p.m.: A caller asked police to help keep the peace while she was trying to tow her son's vehicle. Another person was there, causing a disturbance.

7:51 p.m.: A caller said a customer's vehicle had been broken into outside Gold's Gym. The vehicle was a green Subaru.

7:57 p.m.: Police received a 911 call made by someone who did not speak English. The caller hung up. Police called the person back and through a language barrier determined that it involved a vehicle that was either stolen or taken without permission. An officer from Hopedale responded to assist with translation. 

11:28 p.m.: A caller on Julian Lane said she could hear yelling. Police checked out the location and everything appeared fine.

Tuesday, Oct. 15

5:29 a.m.: Uxbridge Police asked police to check on the well-being of a woman on Mark Drive. She kept calling in false reports of her husband needing an ambulance. She was possibly intoxicated. Police spoke to her.

6:46 a.m.: A caller reported hearing about 20 gunshots in the area of Rich Road. National Guard also reported hearing gun shots in the woods. An officer was heading to the area near the power lines. The source could not be located.

6:59 a.m.: Several callers reported hearing gun shots in the area of High and West Spruce Streets. Police responded to the area but found nothing. An officer went by the bus stops to assure parents and also notified school personnel that nothing was found.

7:48 a.m.: A caller on Water Street said he thought homeless people were living in the garage by his apartment. An officer determined that these were employees of a garage nearby who were using the space as a break area. He spoke to them.

8:05 a.m.: A woman reported a 17-year-old girl had left the house after 7 p.m. the previous night and not returned.

8:22 a.m.: A caller said an ATM was vandalized at Bank of America on Prospect Street, and the touch screen broken.

10:09 a.m.: A dead skunk was found on Water Street. The animal control officer was contacted.

10:50 a.m.: Two women in the police station said that about an hour before, suspicious activity had happened in their neighborhood of Grant Street. They said a driver had been going up and down the street, and then knocking on doors that had no cars in the driveways. The driver said he was looking for "old air conditioners." Police said to call police immediately if this happens again. Officers were dispatched to the area

3:34 p.m.: An officer asked police to check on the well-being of his friend. He said he came to him, going off about "many conspiracies." The caller asked to speak to an officer. An officer spoke to the friend and reported that everything was fine, and this was a misunderstanding about his political views.

3:53 p.m.: An elderly woman fell in front of Rite Aid on Prospect Street. She could not get back up. Firefighters responded.

4:03 p.m.: A woman walked in to police headquarters and said her roommate had taken her debit card and withdrew money from her account on two occasions. She also reported a withdrawal made in August. Police were investigating.

5:07 p.m.: A person walked in to police headquarters and said her mother had filed a missing person's report. The mother and daughter were reunited.

5:14 p.m.: Firefighters responded to Main at Winter streets, where a truck had caught fire near a building. The truck was fully involved when firefighters arrived.  The fire was extinguished.

5:18 p.m.: A caller said she was being threatened by another woman who she is in counseling with. Police were investigating.
