Police Log: Driver Swerves to Avoid Open Trunk, Shoplifter Takes Oil from Mobil

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Thursday, Feb. 20

At 9:46 a.m., Milford police received a report of power lines down in the road near Dunkin Donuts on East Main Street. Upon arrival, officers determined that the wire had been previously cut. 

At 4 p.m., police responded to the Mobil station on Cedar Street on a report of a shoplifter, described as a male operating a silver vehicle who allegedly stole an empty gas canister. Upon further investigation, officers determined that it was a quart of oil that had been taken.

At 5:14 p.m., police responded to the area of Main and Prospect streets after receiving a report of a vehicle that allegedly tried to run another vehicle off the road before running a red light in the area. Upon locating the vehicle, officers spoke to the driver, who said that the person in front of him had her trunk open and he drove around her to avoid hazard. 

At 5:41 p.m., police responded to Park Lane Avenue after receiving a report of a suspicious man in the area who may have been a solicitor. Police later determined the man to be a solicitor from the Power Home Remodel group.

At 10:32 p.m., police received a report from an Alfred Road resident that her phone had been stolen and traced it back to another address. Police later determined that the incident occurred in another jurisdiction.
