Police Log: Crews Extinguish Large Brush Fire on Vietnam Trail

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Monday, April 21

At 6:11 a.m., Milford Police responded to a report of an accident near the Mobil station on Rte. 109. A driver reported he had been rear-ended by another vehicle. No injuries were reported, and police issued a summons to Sulemir Dos Santos for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and following too close. 

At 7:59 a.m., police received a report that a manhole cover was found in the middle of East Main Street. Officers responded to the area and secured the cover.

At 8:47 a.m., a driver for Art's Towing requested police assistance to get him through traffic so he could get to the scene of a vehicle that needed towing on the highway. 

At 10:10 a.m., police received a report from a caller who stated she was out with a little girl in the area of Fayette Street. The girl appeared to be no older than 2 years of age and was by herself walking up the street. Officers responded and later spoke with the Department of Children and Families, and were later able to locate a woman who claimed to be the girl's sister. The child was later taken home by her parents.

At 11:45 a.m., police received a report that a vehicle had been parked in the roadway on Congress Street for up to 10 days and had not moved. Officers checked the address of the registered owner and found that the owner no longer lived at the location. 

At 1:14 p.m., police responded to Eastview Drive on a report of a motor vehicle accident involving an occupant with a neck injury. Massachusetts State Police confirmed that the accident took place in Milford and two minor injuries were reported. 

At 2:09 p.m., police responded to an accident in the area of West Fountain and Highland Street. 

At 2:33 p.m., Milford fire crews responded to a report of a brush fire in the area of the Vietnam Trail on Cedar Street. Heavy smoke was reported near high tension wires in the area, and police determined the fire to be behind the Milford Water Company on Eben Street. Massachusetts State Police were notified of drifting smoke conditions near Rte. I-495. Crews were able to contain the fire to a 5-acre area, and crews from Medway, Hopedale and Hopkinton all responded to assist. 

At 3:18 p.m., police received a report of a wire down in front of a house on Franklin Street. Responding officers found the wire to be a cable wire that was coiled up and on the side of the road, and contacted Comcast to address the cable. 

At 5:50 p.m., police responded to a report of a two-car accident in the area of Kmart on Medway Road. 

At 9:49 p.m., Milford Police assisted the Holliston Police Department to check Maple Street for a woman whose car was reportedly found on Highland Street in Holliston. Milford Officers checked Maple Street but found no one in the area. Hollistion police subsequently detected a ping of a phone that reverted to the area of Rte. I-495 southbound.
