Police Log: Children, not Thieves, Take Items from Home

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Thursday, Aug. 8

7:49 p.m.: A sergeant pulled over a Jetta on Medway Road, near Dunkin' Donuts. Police arrested Richard Charles Haines, 26, of 13 Reade St., Apt. 2R, Milford, on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding.

10:54 p.m.: A man called police to report a vehicle was parked at Pheasant Circle who was not supposed to be there. A second caller reported an elderly man was yelling at her and harassing her on Pheasant Circle, and she was there to visit a friend. Police responded and talked with both and they went their separate ways.

Friday, Aug. 9

2:12 a.m.: Pranksters pulled construction barrels into the road at Congress Street and Hale Avenue, an officer reported. He pulled them out of the road.

3:14 a.m.: An officer found an open door at Milford Sports Center and said he would check it out. He secured the building.

4:22 a.m.: A woman asked police to check on the well-being of her boyfriend at Domino's, as he is usually home much earlier. She had tried to reach him without success. Police responded and found him sleeping in his car, as he was too tired to drive home. He said he would call his girlfriend.

7:20 a.m.: A caller said someone had broken into her home, on Howard Street. She was not sure when it happened. She was told to wait outside for officers. Police officers responded. An officer said it was the woman's children who had moved out and taken some of the possessions.

2:33 p.m.: A woman was reported to be in custody for shoplifting at Kohl's. Police arrested Camille DiCampo Calechman, 57, of 21 Prospect St., Upton, on a charge of shoplifting more than $100 by concealing merchandise.

3:25 p.m.: An officer responded to Kohl's again, for another report of a shoplifter. Police arrested Bethanie C. Melkus, 33, of 137 Chalker Beach RD., Old Saybrook, CT, on a charge of shoplifting $100 by concealing merchandise.

4:51 p.m.: Two cars were involved in a collision on West Fountain and Congress Streets. National Grid was notified because a pole was struck.
