Police Log: Child Stopping Traffic, Drunken Man Harassing Hotel Guests

The following information was provided by the Milford Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Aug. 19

6:27 p.m.: A caller reported a man was down in the parking lot at John Smith Sports Center, vomiting. THe man had no shirt and blue pants. Police responded but the man refused medical treatment.

6:54 p.m.: A caller with a language barrier said a man needed to be removed from a Main Street apartment. Police responded and found the man was no longer there. Police spoke to the occupants.

7:49 p.m.: A caller on South Main Street said a man with a backpack and clipboard, who said he was from Verizon, was looking into her home and asking too many questions. Police could not locate the solicitor.

10:57 p.m.: An intoxicated man at Comfort Inn was harassing the guests, a caller said. He was staying in one of the rooms. Police were asked to remove him.

11:56 p.m.: A caller reported loud music in an apartment on Exchange Street.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

5:31 a.m.: A man walked in to police headquarters and reported derogatory writings on the bike path near Fino Field.

9:00 a.m.: A two-car crash was reported on Fortune Boulevard. Two ambulances were requested but the people declined transport.

11:40 a.m.: Vandalism was reported to a Honda Civic at the Pond Street lot. An officer said the car was punched by a woman who works at the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

1:11 p.m.: Two men and a woman were reported to be fighting on Spring Street.

3:34 p.m.: A caller on Pheasant Circle said someone had picked the lock to her door and taken her food stamp card and used all the money on it. The food stamp card was returned. Police found no signs of forced entry and found no items taken

4:58 p.m.: A brush fire was reported on Cedar Street. Firefighters responded and found a fire affecting about 1.5 acres in the Vietnam trails section. 

5:06 p.m.: A caller reported vandalism at Brookside Elementary School.  An officer found no vandalism, just writing in sidewalk chalk.

5:09 p.m.: Police and firefighters responded to Hickey's Liquors, where an infant was having trouble breathing.

5:30 p.m.: Police received a report of a child, about age 4, wearing only underwear and stopping traffic on East Main Street at Meade Street. The child ran away from the caller. An officer located the child on Cedar View Circle and said he appeared to be autistic. The caller located the child's grandmother, and she met with police to pick him up. Police were going to have her come to the station to fill out a form of Special Needs for the child and to take some photos.
