Man, Dog Displaced in Overnight House Fire

A resident escaped to a neighbor's home after his dog alerted him to the fire.

A resident of North Street escaped an early-morning house fire Friday after his dog woke him by barking.

The house at 10 North St. was boarded with plywood Friday afternoon. The man was being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to a Tweet.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Milford Deputy Fire Chief William Touhey Jr. The fire was reported by the man at 3:02 a.m., after he ran to a neighbor's house.

"His dog woke him up," Touhey said.

The damage to the single-family structure and contents was estimated at $90,000 Touhey said. It is not habitable.
