Head-on Collision Seriously Injures Two, Closes Central Street

Central Street is expected to be closed for the next several hours.

A head-on collision on Central Street has sent two people to a trauma hospital in Worcester, and resulted in the closure of Central Street to all but local traffic.

The crash seriously injured both drivers in the vehicles — a Hyundai Tiburon and a Dodge Calibre — who were taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, said Milford Police Sgt. John Sanchioni.

The crash was reported shortly before 1 p.m. just east of Silva Street.

Firefighters who responded used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the Tiburon, Sanchioni said. An initial investigation, based on damage sustained by the vehicles, indicates the driver of the Hyundai was heading east on Central Street, lost control, and crossed into the path of the Dodge, he said.

A full investigation will be conducted by the Central Massachusetts accident reconstruction team, and will require the closure of Central Street for about two hours. A road block sign is diverting traffic at East Street Extension.
