Fire Dept. Battles Brush Fire

The fire was extinguished after about four hours.

The fire department spent about four hours battling a brush fire in the woods off Haven Street, Lt. Frank Ferrante said.

The department received a report around noon and discovered a fire about a half-mile into the woods, Ferrante said.

No homes were threatened and no injuries were reported, Ferrante said. The fire was extinguished at about 4 p.m., he said.

No cause has been determined. The day’s dry and windy conditions aggravated the situation, he said.

Today was a “red flag’’ day, which means that no burning was allowed.
