Boy Hit on Bicycle Near Milford Library

A 14-year-old Milford boy was hit by a car Monday night as he crossed Spruce Street on a bike. The teen had a serious head injury, and was flown to a hospital in Worcester.

A 14-year-old boy was flown by helicopter to a Worcester hospital Monday night with a serious head injury, after he was struck while riding a bicycle across Spruce Street.

The boy was taken initially to Milford Regional Medical Center, then flown to a trauma center in Worcester, according to Milford Deputy Police Chief James Heron.

The driver, who was traveling west on Spruce, stopped after the collision, Heron said. The boy had been crossing the road from the driveway area of Stacy Middle School, he said. A full investigation is ongoing, he said, but it appears the boy came out in front of the car.

"Early indications are that the boy just came across the street," Heron said.

Police did not identify the boy, or the woman driver who struck him. Heron said the boy was from Milford. The woman driving the vehicle has not been charged.

The driver, who gave a statement to police, was visibly upset but able to answer questions, said Sgt. Ed Varteresian.

The crash was reported shortly before 7 p.m. Monday. Police sent an officer to the boy's mother's home, and she was going to be taken to the hospital by police.
