Bomb Threat Shuts Down K-Mart

The bomb threat called in to the Milford Kmart is thought to be related to several others Friday night in Massachusetts.

Milford and State Police have responded to Kmart, where a male caller threatened to blow up the store and shoot the families of employees, according to police.

The bomb threat resulted in a shut down of the store, which had at least 50 people inside at the time, said Milford Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin.

The call is part of a pattern of five to six bomb threats at Kmarts reported to police Friday, in cities including Saugus. In all of the cases, O'Loughlin said, a man has called the store, spoken to an employee and threatened to blow up the building.

The Milford caller had an accent, which the employee described as sounding "Indian," O'Loughlin said. The call was reported to police at 6:48 p.m.

Massachusetts State Police sent a bomb-sniffing dog and handler to Milford Friday. The bomb unit was sweeping through the store as of 8:30 p.m.

To reassure store employees, Milford Police did go to their homes here and make sure everything was OK.
