More than 500 people voted in this week's Readers' Choice competition, picking Hickey's Liquors as the best place to purchase beer, wine or liquor, in a narrow contest with JP Liquors.

Hickey's, which moved this year to a larger, stand-alone shop on East Main Street, nudged out
with 210 votes of the 541 cast, or 38 percent of the total, by the 9 a.m. deadline. JP Liquors, on South Main Street, collected 200 votes, or 36 percent.

JP's, however, collected the most points for positive reviews on its business listing, , to five for Hickey's.
This put the two package stores into a tie-breaking count of positive reviews, and positive comments on the Readers' Choice story. The final tally? Eleven positive reviews and comments for Hickeys, versus 10 for JP's by the 9 a.m. deadline.
