Happy Birthday Milford Patch

A year ago today, Milford Patch launched. It's been an incredible first year, thanks to our readers and supporters.

A year ago, Milford Patch launched as a website. At the time, we were an unknown. Many people liked the idea of an interactive, community website, with news, information and events. But they weren't quite sure what to expect.

Now, a year later, we are more familiar, and we hope, a trusted source of information. That's the goal. We've grown tremendously, and changes have taken place. The site now has more than 1,300 people who follow us on Facebook. And we seem to be getting fewer, puzzled "What's Patch?" responses when we're out and about.

The site launched on Oct. 15, 2010, under the stewardship of . The first posts that week included a column about looking for the bright angle in all things, , and a report of an , of nearly $100 in a collection jar at the Milford Town Library.

Every weekday morning, readers now can expect to see a , something that I've had little trouble filling, given all the activity in town. Every afternoon, gives a snapshot of what's been happening in Milford that day.

About six months in, I became the , stepping in as a newcomer to a community that I have learned to respect and enjoy covering. At the time, I remember wondering if I could find enough to write about in one town. I soon discovered that wasn't going to be a problem. If you see the police log getting posted at 4 p.m. or later, you'll know why!
