Is there any group of people exercising a similar effort more useless than real estate agents? In 40 plus years in Milford, I have met many of them and know some who entered that bogus field from really important careers else where. What do they contribute to either end of a transaction? Please help me understand what functions they have and what social or economic value they have? There are several values in a capitalist society. There is use value there is exchange value and there is labor value. Realtors have no value that adds to the commodity that they mess around in. What value do they add to a piece of real estate? Mind you, real estate has little value in the economic system anyway since after its original value was created by a builder, everyone who comes after is really just exchanging it for cash. Cash has no real value as the banks have no intention of paying interest to get some. If you own real estate of marginal cash value like the ones listed in "rent to own", the bank won't lend you the cash to buy it unless you pay very high rates of interest. So, even those parcels are valueless and become even less worthy when you involve a "realtor"
