Obituaries: Marie (Tusino) Stevens, Mary Balian, Dorothy Roth, Jean Kelley, Robert Bega, Michael Pinkerton, Josephine Nutter

The following residents, or former residents, of Milford died in recent days.

Marie E. (Tusino) Stevens, 83, of Hopedale died Tues. Sept. 10, in the Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of the Thomas F. Stevens.
Mrs. Stevens was a Special Needs teacher's aide in the Milford school system for many years retiring in 2000. She had previously been employed at the former Telechron Co. in Ashland and had also been a hairdresser and manager of the hair salon at the former Grants store in Milford. Marie was born Feb. 20, 1930 in Milford the daughter of the late Joseph and Degna (Pillarella) Tusino and had lived most of her life in Milford before moving to Hopedale three years ago.

Mary Balian, 87, of Milford, died Sunday, Sept. 8 at Countryside Healthcare of Milford, following a brief illness. She was the wife of Peter Balian. She was born in Newton Upper Falls, the daughter of the late John and Armavin (Melikian) Hamperian. Mrs. Balian was a member of the Methodist Church of Milford where she taught nursery school for over 30 years. Mary was well known by her family for her culinary skills of preparing authentic Armenian delicacies. 

Mrs. Dorothy A. (Glynn) Roth, 65, of Milford, died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 13, after being stricken at her residence. She was the beloved wife of Edwin J. Roth. Mrs. Roth was born in Boston the daughter of the late Anna F. Glynn. She attended Boston public schools as a young girl. She also attended the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital School of Nursing and also Fisher College. Mrs. Roth had been a resident of Milford since 2004 and had been employed as an LPN at the former Milford Geriatric Authority for about nine years. She was also a volunteer at the Ruth Anne Bleakney Memorial Senior Center in Milford, working in the gift shop.

Jean M. (Cecchi) Kelley, 81, of Milford, died Friday, Sept. 13, at the Milford Regional Medical Center shortly after admission. She was the wife of John J. Kelley Jr.  She was born in Milford, the daughter of the late Leandro and the late Maria (Meschini) Cecchi and was a life-long Milford resident. Mrs. Kelley graduated from Milford High School Class of 1949 and she  was  employed as a school crossing guard for the Town of Milford from 1965-1996. She also enjoyed working at the Purchase Street Market in recent years.

Robert J. Bega, 72, of Milford, where he was a lifelong resident, died on Friday, Sept. 13, at the Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Janice G. (Liborio) Bega, who passed in 1999. A U.S. Marine Corps, Vietnam Veteran, Bob retired in 2000 after 22 years as a concrete pump operator with the former APPCO Corp. in Milford, and then went on to work for 3 years with Franny’s Landscaping. He was educated in the Milford Schools, was a member of the Plains Association, and the American Legion Post 59, as well as being and avid hunter and fisherman.

Michael A. Pinkerton, 61, of Milford, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, in the Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Judith K. (Matson) Pinkerton of 35 years. He was born in Omaha NB son of the late George and Donna Mae (Cassady) Pinkerton, moving to Milford this year. He was a Vietnam Era U.S. Marine Corp Veteran. Mr. Pinkerton was employed in Human Resources at the Edith Nourse Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford MA. He also was an ordained Minister for the Southern New England Ministries of the Assembly of God Church.

Josephine A. (Grillo) Nutter, 93, of Milford, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, in the Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Northbridge. She was the wife of the late Theodore W. Nutter who died in 2004. She was born in Milford daughter of the late Salvatore and Salvatrice Grillo and was a lifelong Milford resident.
Mrs. Nutter was a graduate of the Milford High School class of 1938. She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
