Obituaries: Manfredo Volpicelli, Dorothy M. Moro, Frances Cowen Ferigno, Jean Gallagher Neal

The following residents and former residents of Milford have died in recent days.

Manfredo Volpicelli, 87, of Milford, died on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones in Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Giovanna (Casali) Volpicelli. Manfredo, his wife and family moved to Massachusetts from Bore, Parma, Italy, in 1968 and settled in Milford with the assistance of his sister Luigia “Gina” Cordani and her family. Manfredo and Giovanna were married for 58 years. 
Manfredo worked in construction through Laborers Local 609 and contributed his skills on many local construction projects such as the Milford High School, Milford Regional Medical Center and Milford Wastewater Treatment Plant. He was an avid gardener and wine maker and generously shared the bounty of these labors of love with his family and friends.

Dorothy M. “Dot” (Bowen) Moro, 97, of Milford, passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at Countryside Healthcare of Milford. She was the wife of the late William G. Moro, who died in 1984. She was born in Uxbridge, the daughter of the late Frank and Mae (Trudell) Bowen, and was a 1934 graduate of Uxbridge High School. She had also attended Salem State College.
Dot had worked as a secretary with Attorney Alfred B. Cenedella for several years, and retired from Greenleaf Financial Co., in Milford, after 19 years. She was an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Red Sox. Dot was an avid reader, a member of the Sacred Heart Women’s Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Frances E. (Cowen) Ferigno, 90, of Milford, died Monday (Nov. 18, 2013) at Milford Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Benedetto F. Ferigno, who died in 2008. Mrs. Ferigno was born in Attleboro, the daughter of the late Marshall F. and the late Gladys M. (Whitehouse) Cowen. She attended Medway public schools and was a graduate of Bellingham High School. 
Mrs. Ferigno had been a resident of Milford for most of her life and also had resided on Cape Cod for about 10 years. She had been employed at Morin’s Studio & Camera Shop located in Milford for many years. 

Mrs. Jean F. (Gallagher) Neal, 85, of Hopedale, died peacefully on Thursday evening (Nov. 14, 2013) after a brief stay at Genesis Healthcare of Milford. For 61 years she was the devoted and loving wife of the late John A. Neal, who died in 2010. 
Jean was born in Milford, the daughter of the late John H. and the late Marion A. (Dalrymple) Gallagher. She grew up in Milford, attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1945. She was employed by the former New England Telephone Company for over 10 years. John and Jean moved to Hopedale in 1952. In their later years, they spent over 20 years wintering in Vero Beach, FL.
