Obituaries: Josephine Burns, Constance Viscione, Rose Polito, Thomas Rizzi

The following residents of Milford have died in recent days.

Josephine M. (Mele) Burns, 88, of Milford died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 at home surrounded by loved ones. She was the wife of Benjamin T. Burns, Jr.
A lifelong resident of Milford, Mrs. Burns was born July 30, 1925 in Milford, daughter of the late Guiseppe and Maria (Gala) Mele and attended Milford Catholic schools.
Mr. & Mrs. Burns observed their 67th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2013.
She was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford.
Pena was a gentle woman possessing quite a sense of humor. Pena was a devoted wife and a loving mother. Her family and friends will always remember her as a selfless woman who always put everyone’s needs and happiness before her own.

Constance A. (Simione) Viscione, 99, soon to be 100 on Feb. 7, 2014, of Milford, passed away with grace, on Nov. 14, 2013 at the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge under the loving care of the Lydia Taft House staff, especially Tina who cared for her like she was her own mother. She was the wife of the late Vito P. Viscione who died in 1979.
She was born in Casavecchia, DePuglia, Italy, daughter of the late John and Maria (Mignone) Simione and lived in Milford most of her life. She was educated in the Milford schools and also attended many night courses at the Milford High School. 
Mrs. Viscione was employed as an operating room assistant the Milford Hospital. She also was employed at the former Calicco Dress Shop in Milford, Lish Hat Factory also made hats in her home and the Archer Rubber Company in Milford.
She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and a member of the Sacred Heart Women’s Club. 

Rose J. (Noferi) Polito, 93, of Milford, died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 7, 2013, at the Milford Center-Genesis Healthcare after a period of declining health. She was the widow of Louis R. Polito who died in 2005 to whom she was married for (59) years. 
She was born in Hopedale, the daughter of the late Massimo and the late Julia (Comforti) Noferi. She is survived by nieces and nephews including Michael J. Noferi of Milford, Louis J. Noferi of Hopedale, Susan Cosentino of Hopedale, Angela Trotta of Pembroke, RI, and Geraldine Noferi of Woonsocket, RI.; (12) grandnephews & nieces; (9) great grandnieces and nephews; and (1) great greatgrandnephew. 

Thomas A. Rizzi, 81, of Milford, died Saturday evening, Nov. 9, 2013, at the Kindred Healthcare Center in Westborough, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Marlene L. (Seaman) Rizzi who died in 2008. 
He was born in Milford, the son of the late Simplice and the late Angelina (Bonetta) Rizzi and was a life-long Milford resident. 
Mr. Rizzi attended the former Plains elementary school, the Stacy Jr. High School, and graduated from Milford High School in 1949. He was an avid football player having quarterbacked the Milford High School team in 1949 and played for the semi-pro team, the Milford Trojans. 
He had owned and operated the former Book & Platter Shoppe in Milford from 1967 to 1984 and the  TR Book Service.  He had previously been employed at the Cosmo and Mordern Book Distributors as well as the A. A. Book Distributors  and Simon & Shuster Publishers.
