Obituaries: Irene Celeste, Manuel Pereira, Luigi D'Amato

The following residents of Milford have died in recent days.


Irene M. (Comolli) Celeste, 93, of Milford, died July 1 at Countryside Healthcare of Milford after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Michael J. Celeste, who died in 1997. 

Mrs. Celeste was born in Milford, the daughter of the late Victor and the late Isolina (Marlowe) Comolli. She attended Milford public schools, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 1938. Mrs. Celeste was a lifelong resident of Milford and a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and the Sacred Heart Church Women’s Club.

Manuel C. Pereira, 85, of Milford died Wednesday July 3 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Husband of Maria L. (Silva) Pereira for 58 years, he was born in Milford, the son of the late Antonio and Teresa (Costella) Pereira. At the age of four, his family moved back to Portugal, where he was raised and educated, until returning to Milford in 1955. He had worked for many years as a pattern man at the former Milford Shoe Co., and retired in 1995 from New Balance in Lawrence after 10 years.

Luigi "Gino" D'Amato, 89, of Milford, died June 29, 2013, at the Genesis Healthcare, Milford Center. Born in Busana, Italy, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Antoinette D’Amato, and was the husband of the late Rose M. (DeLuca), whom passed in 1996.
He retired in 1989 from Boston Digital Corp., where he had worked as an assembler for seven years. He had formerly worked at Draper Corp. in Hopedale, as a machinist for many years, the former Uxbridge quarries, as well as running his family owned fruit and produce company from 1956 through the mid 1970s.
