A Press Release from the Milford Performing Arts Center

The Milford Performing Arts Center (MPAC) is preparing for their first ever telethon which will air on MilfordTV local channel 11 Sunday April 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and be simulcast on Youtube.

During a sweltering summer show, one of our young performers asked her dad, also performing in the show, why MPAC doesn't get new air conditioning - When the response was - it's too expensive - the tenacious 11 year old stated that MPAC should have a telethon to raise money for the things we need... like air conditioning .... so  dad and many others in earshot heard the idea - thought it was great and are now running with it!

During the six (6) hour telethon MPAC will showcase: clips from past and current shows- , singers, choral groups, improv groups, and drama groups  that all study at the center. Alums will also be performing and interviewed as well as some surprise notable guests, You can also watch local bands and singer/ songwriters who participate in MPAC's monthly coffee house.

Excerpts from their recent – all faculty performance of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” will be performed. It’s Robert Trembley’s (superintendent of Milford Schools) hope that their participation will encourage students and their families to tune in and help MPAC .

Brittany (the inspired 11 year old) promised to help and do whatever needed to be done to make the telethon happen. Together Brittany and her father read postings over the internet, called different groups, emailed organizations for help and even called groups in London and Australia for advice. They sent out information, flyers and coordinated with MilfordTV (the local cable channel) and WMRC first class radio to help promote and televise the FIRST EVER MPAC TELETHON.

Brittany wants everyone to be involved from the youngest members to the oldest – including alumni who have moved on. They hope to reach out to Malcom in The Middle TV star –Erik Per Sullivan - who went to MPAC when he was younger.

So because of one sweltering summer show and a very savvy 11 year old , the channel 11 viewing audience will be treated to the First Ever MPAC telethon,  which will have a full schedule of a wide variety of performances from current MPAC members and alum along with other performing artists in the Milford Community, thus providing the opportunity for a wonderful afternoon/evening of entertainment and the chance to help the local performing arts center continue.

MPAC hopes to raise money to update equipment – including sound equipment, costumes, signs and yes – air conditioning and heating oil as well as use the money to keep the costs of their programs down so that they will be available to anyone with a love of the arts.
