Thanks to the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, hundreds of historic Connecticut barns are now available for tours and provide a glimpse into the past. Seven trails wind across the state and encompass museums and fall activities. This relaxing trip is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while learning about New England’s roots.

Newport’s Old Colony and Newport Railway

The Eastern Shore of Narragansett Bay features The Old Colony and Newport Railway, a 10-mile train tour. This 80-minute journey allows visitors to enjoy a 180-degree view on an open platform coach, built in 1904, or travel back in time in an 1884 parlor car. Sit back and savor the fall foliage, rocky beaches, and sparkling waters of the Bay.

Franconia State Park’s Aerial Tramway

For an unparalleled view of New Hampshire’s fall foliage, ride the Aerial Tramway to the summit of Franconia State Park’s Cannon Mountain. This ride is New Hampshire’s highest lift-accessed point, bringing visitors to remarkable heights and offering stunning views of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, New York, and even Canada. Visitors may have a new outlook after experiencing the world from these heights.
